The Harp Seals of the Magdalen Islands (also known as Iles de la Madeleine) are depicted in this portfolio. The time of year is March when many female seals have just given birth to their baby pups. Sadly, these baby seals are hunted for their white pelts throughout the Gulf of St. Lawrence. In 2012, the Canadian government set a kill quota of 400,000.
